    • Congressman Richard Neal Visits Kindred Hospital Park View
      May 5, 2010

U.S. Representative Richard Neal visited Kindred Hospital Park View recently during the congressional spring break. The congressman has a long association with the building, which originally served as the municipal hospital for the city of Springfield when he was Mayor.

Representative Neal met with Massachusetts District Executive Director John Albert, KH Park View Chief Executive Officer Karen Moore, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Bruce Meth, Medical Director of Hospital Services Dr. Ali Jabari and other members of the leadership team before taking an extended walking tour throughout the hospital which includes 3 LTAC units, a 30-bed psychiatric unit and a 28 bed neuro-behavioral unit.

Representative Neal said, “You are very well positioned in the immediate future for the changes of healthcare reform."

Representative Neal has been very involved with the revitalization of Springfield including the State Street project where Kindred Hospital resides. He noted that since the reconstruction of State Street has been completed the focus now is on assuring the rebuilding of business and properties on State Street .He was impressed to see the hospital and plans for its future. The leadership team presented important education about LTAC hospitals and the employee base including the growth in jobs -- our patient census has increased by 30% and we have filled over 60 job positions in the last two years.

Representative Neal visited staff as well as some patients, even gowning up to go into the room of an old friend who, when he heard the Congressman was in the building, asked for him to come see him. In fact he overstayed his scheduled time.

An aide said, "He really is enjoying his visit here - he does not stay overtime by accident.”
